NAYRAR SARAPXAÑANI: Forward Together

Leading the effort!

Flora Silva

As we begin to develop better and stronger structures to serve here in Mocomoco, programs become permanent projects. Support begins to engender new and creative initiatives. “Forward together!” is a multi-faceted program that views the person on a developmental continuum. Developed through the collaborative efforts of Fr. Diego and lay associate Flora Silva, and funded by supporters in the USA, Spain and Bolivia, this effort grew from a simple child care center. It now has its own identity and status as a juridic and canonical person in Bolivia and the Church, with Flora Silva Castillo — born and raised in Mocomoco — as its first Executive Director! She brings a wealth of knowledge, creativity, and drive, coupled with deep compassion and leadership skills developed over the years. She began serving here in 2006.

Bishop EugenioFor those that need it, now we after school skills-building in the expanded Miraculous Medal Child Care Center. The center also provides a residence four our three collaborators. There’s a library and a computer lab. All of these programs now exist in the community of Ingas as well! Last year we expanded to Chaguaya and Ococoya, and we hope to enter Huarcamarca this year.

Families have access to supplementary food staples and free medicines for children. Hospital visits are subsidized. School supplies are delivered to schools in our parishes that request assistance. In weekly catechesis, children encounter the Christ who values them, and they begin to dream. For those with the will, we provide access to university level education, or post-secondary technical training. Those who accept this challenge are enrolled in a human and spiritual formation program that insists that the beneficiaries of scholarships use their learning for the benefit of their communities of origin. We are happy to have Javier Juvenal Silva Castillo working with us. He received a scholarship to study psychopedagogy.
