I went to Ilave today to celebrate Pentecost there. Roberto and his wife Marina were with me, and we arrived early to enjoy the festivities. One special moment was when a music group from a nearby community (Santawara) entered the chapel to honor the cross with music and dance. It was the first time I witnessed this. It reminded me of the African ritual “sweeping” of the sacred space, a rite of preparation. It was a beautiful day, with a beautiful celebration — the chapel filled to bursting.
