….meaning both the feast and the journey. We descended into the valley to Ilave (from 4,000 meters down to about 3500), and then trekked for about half an hour upwards at a forty-five degree angle. Cake walk these days. The view from the crest is awesome, and during these clear winter days you can see for miles and miles. Across the valley the rest of the village of Santawara extends beyond my sight…

We were going in response to the command of Jesus, “Go and make disciples…baptize them…(Matt 26)” Flora and Roberto followed me up the mountain — not because I knew where I was going, but because I take big steps going up and little ones going down! Only the catechist was there when we arrived at the high point above the village. There was a frigid wind. He assured us the people would come.

He rang the bell and they did come, and filled the little chapel.
